Amelia & George’s At-Home Marquee Wedding in Kent
At-Home Marquee Wedding in Kent | Weddings by Lisa Marie & Wise Wedding Consultancy
There is something truly special about an at-home wedding. Celebrating at a family home, surrounded by familiar gardens, meaningful details and the people who matter most, creates a day that feels deeply personal. For Amelia and George, their wedding was exactly that — a beautiful celebration at their family home in Kent, with a marquee set within the grounds, elegant green and white florals, live music and thoughtful touches woven throughout the day.
At Weddings by Lisa Marie, we had the pleasure of supporting Amelia and George with the planning, supplier coordination and on-the-day management that brought their vision to life. From the detailed preparations in the lead-up to the wedding to the final finishing touches on the morning itself, our role was to make sure every element came together seamlessly, allowing the couple and their families to enjoy every moment.
Planning an At-Home Wedding: The Preparation Behind the Day
An at-home marquee wedding offers incredible flexibility and the opportunity to create something entirely personal. However, transforming a family garden into a fully functioning wedding venue requires careful planning, detailed organisation and coordination across multiple suppliers.
In the lead-up to Amelia and George’s wedding, we worked behind the scenes to ensure every part of the day had been thoughtfully considered. This included developing the wedding timeline, coordinating suppliers, confirming arrival and setup times, and ensuring everyone understood their responsibilities and how their part of the day fitted into the wider schedule.
With a marquee wedding, there are many moving parts to consider. From the florist and catering team to the bar, entertainment and other suppliers, each element needs to work in harmony. We helped bring all these details together, confirming logistics, communicating timings and anticipating the practical considerations that can easily be overlooked when planning a wedding at home.
We also considered how guests would move through the day, from arriving at the family home and attending the church ceremony to returning for the reception, drinks on the lawn, dinner and evening celebrations.
Our role was to create a clear plan, communicate it to the relevant suppliers and ensure everyone had the information they needed before the wedding day arrived. This preparation meant that, when the morning came, we could focus on bringing the plans to life rather than leaving important decisions until the last minute.
The Wedding Morning: Bringing the Marquee to Life
Our wedding day began early, arriving at the family home before the first suppliers to oversee the final preparations and ensure everything was ready for Amelia and George’s arrival later that day.
An at-home wedding involves so much more than simply decorating a marquee. It is about turning an empty space into a welcoming, beautifully presented setting while ensuring every practical detail is taken care of.
As suppliers arrived, we coordinated the setup, liaised with the catering and bar teams, confirmed timings and guided the florist on where key arrangements and installations were to be positioned. We kept a close eye on the overall layout, ensuring each supplier could work efficiently and that the different elements of the wedding came together as planned.
Behind the scenes, we checked table positions and chair alignment, made sure the layout was consistent and ensured the marquee was immaculate before guests arrived. Every place setting was carefully checked, with napkins, menu cards, place settings and wine glasses arranged and ready on the tables. We even hoovered to make sure the space was presented beautifully down to the smallest detail.
We also helped prepare the bar, including moving drinks from the refrigerators down to the marquee and assisting with stocking, so the team would be ready to welcome guests.
These are the quieter parts of wedding planning that guests may never notice, but they make a real difference to how a wedding looks, feels and runs. Our priority was to ensure the space was not only beautiful but also fully prepared, organised and ready for the celebrations ahead.
Elegant Green and White Styling with Personal Touches
The marquee was styled in a timeless palette of green and white, creating a fresh, elegant setting that complemented the family home and its surroundings.
Beautiful floral arrangements brought softness and natural detail to the space, while a striking welcome arch at the entrance created a wonderful first impression as guests approached the marquee.
Inside, the tables were thoughtfully dressed, with chrome name cards adding a contemporary touch to the table design. An escort card table was arranged for guests to find their names and collect their place cards before taking their seats, creating a clear and organised transition into dinner.
A dedicated section for the band was incorporated into the layout, ensuring the entertainment had its own space while remaining part of the overall atmosphere.
One of the standout features was the round bar positioned in the centre of the marquee. Above it hung a floral hoop, complete with two toy helicopters suspended from the arrangement — a wonderfully personal detail requested by Amelia and George. It was these individual touches that made the styling feel unique to them, bringing personality and meaning into the design.
Every detail was considered as part of the wider look, from the placement of the furniture and florals to the alignment of the chairs and the finishing touches on each table. The result was a cohesive, elegant setting that felt special without losing the warmth of a family celebration.
A Beautiful Church Ceremony Just Across the Road
While preparations continued at the family home, Amelia was getting ready with her family, adding another lovely, personal element to the morning.
The couple's church was just across the road, making it a wonderful part of the day to connect the ceremony with the celebrations at home. To ensure both locations were looked after, we divided our responsibilities between the two.
While I remained at the marquee to oversee the final setup and make sure everything was ready for the couple's return, my colleague went to the church to help coordinate the timings and ensure the ceremony preparations were running smoothly.
From making sure everyone had their buttonholes to ensuring Amelia's dress was beautifully arranged as she stepped out of the car and prepared to walk down the aisle, we were there to look after the details that helped the ceremony feel calm and considered.
One particularly special moment was Amelia's sister performing a beautiful opera piece during the church service. It was such a personal addition to the ceremony, and the sound of the church bells afterwards could be heard back at the family home — a lovely reminder of the connection between the two parts of their day.
Having a planner oversee both locations meant the ceremony and reception preparations could progress simultaneously, without Amelia and George or their families needing to manage the logistics themselves.
Welcome Drinks, Live Music and Celebrations on the Lawn
With the ceremony complete, guests made their way back to the family home, where the atmosphere shifted into a relaxed and joyful garden celebration.
The couple were welcomed back by a roaming band, with prosecco and champagne ready for guests to enjoy as they gathered on the lawn. The music, drinks and garden setting created a wonderful atmosphere, giving everyone time to mingle, dance and celebrate together before dinner.
While guests enjoyed the welcome reception, we continued to oversee the schedule behind the scenes, checking that the catering team, bar and entertainment were all working to the agreed timings.
We also prepared for the transition into dinner, ensuring the escort cards were ready, the tables were complete and guests could find their seats with ease.
As everyone moved into the marquee, Amelia and George made their entrance as newlyweds, bringing everyone together for the next part of the celebrations.
A Beautiful Wedding Breakfast and Heartfelt Speeches
Dinner was a lovely opportunity for everyone to sit down together and enjoy the occasion. The couple chose a three-course meal, with sharing plates on the tables adding to the warm, sociable atmosphere.
Behind the scenes, we worked alongside the catering team to help keep the schedule on track, making sure the various elements of the meal flowed naturally into the speeches and evening celebrations.
Managing these transitions is an important part of on-the-day wedding coordination. It involves keeping an eye on service timings, communicating with suppliers, ensuring speakers are ready when needed and allowing enough flexibility for the day to feel relaxed rather than rushed.
The speeches were a particularly lovely part of the afternoon, giving family and friends the opportunity to share memories, laughter and heartfelt words with the couple.
Then came the cake cutting, which featured one of the day's most memorable personal details: Amelia and George used an antique sword belonging to the groom's grandfather to cut their wedding cake. It was a wonderful way to incorporate family history into the celebrations and create a moment that felt entirely their own.
From Dinner to Dancing: An Evening to Remember
As dinner and speeches came to an end, the focus shifted towards the evening reception. The band prepared for their set and the marquee was ready to transform into a space for dancing and celebration.
We coordinated the transition between the wedding breakfast, cake cutting, entertainment setup and first dance, keeping in communication with the band and other suppliers to ensure everything was ready at the right moment.
Following their first dance, the celebrations continued with another special musical moment, as the couple's sister performed some beautiful jazz singing. It was a lovely continuation of the personal touches that had run throughout the day, with live music playing such an important role in the atmosphere.
From there, the evening unfolded into a wonderful celebration, with guests enjoying the music, dancing and spending time together late into the day.
The Work Behind the Scenes: What Makes an At-Home Wedding Run Smoothly?
One of the things we love most about at-home and marquee weddings is the opportunity to create a celebration that is completely personal to each couple. But behind every beautiful photograph and seemingly effortless moment is a huge amount of planning, communication and coordination.
For Amelia and George, our support extended well beyond styling the marquee.
It involved managing supplier communication and arrival times, overseeing setup across the site, guiding the placement of florals and furniture, checking every table and place setting, helping prepare the bar, coordinating the church and reception schedules, and ensuring the catering and entertainment teams knew what was happening and when.
It also meant thinking ahead, resolving practical issues before they affected the day, keeping the timeline moving and making sure the different parts of the celebration connected naturally.
At an at-home wedding, there is no venue team to take care of all the usual operational details. Everything needs to be brought in, organised, set up and coordinated. From the smallest styling detail to the timing of the couple's entrance, having a dedicated wedding planner means there is someone overseeing the bigger picture while taking care of the details that allow everyone else to enjoy the day.
Our aim is always to give couples the freedom to be fully present at their wedding, knowing that the logistics, suppliers and running order are being taken care of in the background.
